Gyeongnam Police Launch Investigation into Suspicious Death in Sacheon Aggregate Extraction Site Vehicle Accident

The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will directly investigate the fatal vehicle fall accident that occurred at an aggregate production company in Sacheon, Gyeongnam.

According to the police, at around 12:06 p.m. on the 2nd, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) driving on a road inside an aggregate production company in Sacheon-eup, Sacheon City, fell 4 meters down.

As a result of the accident, a man in his 60s who was in the passenger seat suffered severe head and other injuries and died at the scene, while the driver, also in his 60s, who was in cardiac arrest, was transported to the hospital after receiving CPR but ultimately passed away.

The accident was initially handled as a 'simple traffic accident' by the traffic investigation division of Sacheon Police Station, but the bereaved families and labor groups raised suspicions of an inadequate investigation.

They pointed out that the accident occurred as the vehicle was approaching an area where explosives were installed and blasting was underway, and that the accident vehicle had not been properly managed.

After the bereaved families and others called for a thorough investigation, the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency took over the case and decided to reinvestigate.

The Traffic Crime Investigation Team of the Traffic Investigation Division at the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, which took over the case, announced plans to keep all possibilities open and investigate using scientific and objective methods.
