Kim Ho-il, president of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, was recently investigated by the police after being reported to the Election Commission for violating the Public Official Election Act.
On the 21st, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced that they summoned and questioned Kim Ho-il on the 12th. He is suspected of campaigning among members of the Senior Citizens Association during the 22nd general election.
Kim is accused of attending various meetings in March, a month before the general election, and urging people to vote for the Senior Welfare Party in the proportional representation vote. He is also suspected of instructing association staff to visit local branches to campaign and providing meals.
At that time, Kim’s younger brother, Kim Hyo-jin, was registered as the second candidate on the Senior Welfare Party’s proportional representation list. Kim Hyo-jin also served as a director of the Senior Citizens Association. However, the Senior Welfare Party received only 0.05% of the vote in the last general election and failed to secure any seats.
