Spain's Frizzante 'Vera Mar' Capturing the Sea

[2024 Global Wine and Food Trip]
Vinaroma Highlights Spanish Wines
Navarro Lopez, Bleda, Omblancas, and More

Asia Economy will hold the '2024 Global Wine & Food Trip' for two days starting from the 23rd at the Sebitseom Floating Island in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Marking its third year, the Global Wine & Food Trip will feature major domestic wine importers and food companies, providing an opportunity to taste various regional wines and enjoy food pairings.

Vinaroma will focus on showcasing Spanish wines at this event. First, 'Bodegas Navarro L?pez,' established in 1904 in the Valdepe?as region of southern Spain, has expanded its production areas to Rioja, Ribera del Duero, La Mancha, and others, producing a variety of wines.

Navarro L?pez's 'Vera Mar Verdejo Frizzante' is a Frizzante wine made in a light and fresh style using the Verdejo grape variety. Frizzante is a sparkling wine with the lowest carbonation, having a pressure of 2.5 bar or less at 20°C, resulting in a soft texture and sparkling color. Made using the Charmat method, Frizzante wine suppresses fermentation before grape sugars convert to alcohol, giving it mild carbonation and a slightly sweet style. Generally, it is brewed to maintain a fresh and aromatic fruit-centered style, with white Frizzante made from Verdejo and ros? from Garnacha red grapes, each expressing the fruit characteristics of their varieties well.

Wines from 'Bodegas Bleda' in Jumilla, southeastern Spain, will also be presented. Founded in 1902, Bodegas Bleda is a winery cultivating Monastrell as the main grape variety in vineyards located at 700 meters above sea level. The region where Bleda's vineyards are situated consists of limestone layers, forming a terroir that can withstand long droughts, and the large temperature difference between day and night makes it optimal for growing Monastrell.

All organically grown grapes are hand-harvested, and the high-sugar, highly concentrated grapes play a crucial role in creating rich aromas and complex flavors. The flagship product 'Omblancas' is named after a valley in the Jumilla region, and the wine label features an owl, a symbol of the area. The number 5 on the label signifies that the wine is a blend from five terroirs: three Monastrell sites, one Syrah, and one Petit Verdot vineyard. Omblancas offers rich flavors of ripe fruit and diverse spice aromas. It is an elegant wine with smooth tannins balanced by full fruit flavors, leaving a lasting finish and deep taste impression.
