The traditional market cultural events held in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, are abundant. As the summer heat winds down, people enjoy the early autumn at traditional markets.
On the 21st, Jeonju City announced that it will hold various cultural events to revitalize traditional markets, including the '7th Chimaek & Gamaek Festival' at Moraenae Market and the '2nd Hansabal Makgeolli Festival' at Sinjungang Market.
From the 23rd to the 24th, the '7th Chimaek & Gamaek Festival' offers visitors a chance to beat the late summer heat with refreshing beer and taste representative foods of the traditional market, including freshly fried chicken made directly at the market. In addition to a variety of food, there will be congratulatory performances by invited singers and customer participation events, providing visitors with diverse late summer memories.
On the 30th and 31st, the '2nd Hansabal Makgeolli Festival' will also offer a special experience to visitors at Sinjungang Market. The event venue will welcome visitors with market foods to enjoy alongside makgeolli, such as bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), yukjeon (pan-fried meat), pyeonyuk (boiled pork slices), fried dishes, and donuts. Along with a variety of food offerings, there will be traditional performances and lively festivities including the Makgeolli King and Queen contest.
The 2nd Hansabal Makgeolli Festival was organized as part of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 'Specialized Market Development Project (Cultural Tourism Type).' It is co-hosted by the Jeonju Sinjungang Market Cultural Tourism Market Development Group and the Sinjungang Market Merchants Association, adding significance to the event.
