Drug Fugitive Withdraws Money at Police Box Voluntarily
Turns on Translation App to Ask Why Withdrawal Is Prohibited
Police Confirm Fugitive Identity Through Background Check and Arrest
A drug fugitive who was wanted was caught by the police after visiting a police box to ask why he was banned from leaving the country.
On the 20th, a video titled "Drug Fugitive Who Came to the Police Box on His Own Feet Caught" was uploaded on the Seoul Police YouTube channel. The video showed a foreign man pulling a suitcase visiting Hyoje Police Box of Hyehwa Police Station in Seoul on the 2nd. When the man opened the door, he showed his phone to the police officer he met. Having difficulty communicating in Korean, he requested consultation through a translation app.
The man asked, "Where should I ask to find out the reason for the travel ban?" The police officer became suspicious as the man seemed somewhat nervous and avoided eye contact.
After receiving the passport and checking his identity, the police confirmed that the man was an A-level wanted person under the Narcotics Control Act. The man could not leave the country because an arrest warrant had been issued for him.
The police immediately used telephone interpretation to inform the man of the issuance of the wanted and arrest warrants and arrested him on the spot.
Netizens who heard the story reacted with various comments such as "He walked right into the tiger's den," "Drug crimes must be dealt with strictly," and "No wonder he was so restless."
