Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, visited the goshiwon in Seogyo-dong where a fire occurred the previous evening on the morning of the 21st to inspect the site and emphasized the need to make every effort to establish measures to prevent recurrence.
At around 10:20 PM on the 20th, a fire, suspected to have been caused by a battery, broke out at the goshiwon, but the sprinkler system immediately activated and suppressed the fire in its early stages. The fire was completely extinguished within 30 minutes after the fire department arrived.
It was confirmed that there were no casualties due to the fire, and the goshiwon is currently operating normally.
After inspecting the goshiwon site, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, instructed the relevant departments to conduct a thorough survey of all goshiwons in the area to identify risk factors and strengthen safety measures.
Mayor Park Gang-su stated, “Residential facilities like goshiwons house many residents in a small area, so there is a high risk of significant damage in the event of a fire. I hope that sprinkler installation and emergency exit availability will be carefully checked to ensure that no further damage occurs.”
