The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (President: Lee Heeseung, KIOST), together with 16 other organizations in the Marine Cluster of the Dongsam Innovation District in Yeongdo-gu, Busan, will jointly host the "1st Dongsam Innovation District Marine Cluster Festival" at the main auditorium of the National Maritime Museum for two days starting August 30.
On the first day, August 30, the event will feature an opening ceremony, a joint declaration ceremony wishing for a new leap forward for the Dongsam Innovation District Marine Cluster, and a talk concert with Captain Kim Seungjin and explorer Choi Jongyeol.
On the 31st, there will be a special lecture by science communicator Gwido (Kim Jaehyeok), a seafood magic performance by magician Kim Youngjin, and open house events by each resident organization.
Gwido, who runs the science YouTube channel "Not Possible Science," will give a 90-minute lecture on the topic "The Largest Unknown World Hidden on Earth: The Deep Sea."
In addition, as side events in the lobby of the National Maritime Museum, there will be an achievement exhibition and a recruitment briefing session with participation from the Marine Cluster organizations.
Programs such as the "Opening Ceremony/Talk Concert," "Organization Open House Events," and "Special Lecture/Magic Performance" require advance online registration due to participant limits.
Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology website starting August 21.
The Dongsam Innovation District Marine Cluster Heads Council, which is hosting and organizing this event, was launched in 2013 to establish a cooperative system among resident organizations and create synergy, aiming to develop the Dongsam Innovation District into a world-class marine cluster.
From 2017 to 2020, they jointly held the Marine Cluster Joint Academic Conference, and from 2022 to 2023, they co-hosted the international forum "Insight into the Ocean."
