KOSPI Closes Higher on Foreign and Institutional Buying Pressure

The KOSPI closed higher, supported by buying from foreigners and institutions. The KOSPI index recovered the 2700 level early in the session but trimmed its gains to finish around the 2690 level.

According to the Korea Exchange on the 20th, the KOSPI closed at 2696.63, up 22.27 points (0.83%) from the previous trading day.


On the day, institutions and foreigners were net buyers of 3.1 billion KRW and 254.2 billion KRW, respectively, while individuals were net sellers of 279.4 billion KRW.


Following gains in technology stocks such as Nvidia in the New York market overnight, domestic stocks also closed higher with SK Hynix up 2.99% and Samsung Electronics up 0.77%. SK Hynix briefly reclaimed the 200,000 KRW level during the session.


Among the top 10 KOSPI market capitalization stocks, KB Financial Group (3.33%) and Shinhan Financial Group (2.1%) showed strength, while Hyundai Motor (0.39%), Kia (0.19%), and LG Energy Solution (0.15%) also rose.


On the other hand, Samsung Biologics (-2.47%), Samsung Electronics Preferred (-0.79%), and Celltrion (-0.71%) declined.


The KOSDAQ closed at 787.44, up 9.97 points (1.28%) from the previous day.


Foreigners and institutions led the gains with net purchases of 11.2 billion KRW and 11.8 billion KRW, respectively, while individuals were net sellers of 18.3 billion KRW.


Among the top 10 KOSDAQ market capitalization stocks, Enchem (4.63%), Classys (2.04%), HLB (1.99%), and Alteogen (96170) 0.67% rose.


Rinogong (Rino Industrial) (-2.15%), Samchundang Pharmaceutical (-2.0%), Rigacombio (-1.17%), EcoPro BM (-0.46%), EcoPro (-0.35%), and Hugel (-0.35%) declined.
