Complaint Filed for Fraud Allegations
The police have launched an investigation into the online shopping mall Allets, where victims have emerged who were unable to receive goods or settlements due to the sudden business closure announcement.
On the 20th, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced that they had received a complaint on the previous day against Interstella, the operator of Allets, and CEO Park Seong-hye on charges of fraud.
A police official stated, "A complaint has been filed, and we have begun investigating the complainants," adding, "As more complaints continue to be received, we are working to ascertain the detailed circumstances."
Allets, which sells furniture and home appliances, posted a notice on its homepage on the 16th stating, "Due to unavoidable business circumstances, we will be terminating our service as of August 31." Interstella Co., Ltd., which operates Allets, was established in 2015 and has been conducting business by combining media content with a premium shopping platform.
On the 16th, Allets notified its employees of their dismissal, and CEO Park is reported to have disappeared after leaving an email stating that a multi-billion won investment deal had fallen through.
