Jung In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Launches 'On-site Communication Outreach'

Visited Two Sites Including the Former Jeonmaecheong Building Area for 'On-Site Communication Day' Maintenance Requests

Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 19th that he conducted a communication administration by directly visiting complaint sites to check the progress of projects and listen to the voices of citizens in celebration of the ‘2nd On-site Communication Day in August.’

On that day, Mayor Jeong visited two sites: ▲the area around the former Jeonmaecheong building for maintenance suggestions ▲and the Bonggang and Okryong sewage pipeline maintenance project sites.

The first schedule was to visit the site related to complaints about the management and utilization of the former Jeonmaecheong building. After receiving a detailed report on the building area and management status including the managing authority, Mayor Jeong inspected safety management issues with accompanying citizens such as the head of Seongbuk Village and contemplated future plans for the building and site utilization.

Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang City instructed the Korea Asset Management Corporation, the managing authority, to cooperate by either demolishing the building or transferring ownership to the city, as the building and site have been neglected for a long time and there is concern that it could become a high-crime area.

The second schedule of the ‘2nd On-site Communication Day in August’ was the Bonggang and Okryong sewage pipeline maintenance site. This site is currently undergoing a project to gradually close the aging village sewage treatment plants and connect them to public sewage treatment facilities to improve the residential environment and river water quality.

Mayor Jeong, who visited the site, closely examined the status and plans for pipeline installation by village and the status of water supply construction. He also thoroughly checked Okryong Haetsal School, which processes sewage independently, and remote village areas that treat sewage with septic tanks, then requested that these areas also be included in the project.

Furthermore, to prevent algal blooms in Suwo Dam caused by sewage discharge and to manage water quality, he ordered a prior review report and close consultation with the Ministry of Environment.

Meanwhile, regarding the site visit on ‘July Impression Day’ where he instructed to check poor drainage of sewage pipelines at the Port Logistics High School, Mayor Jeong In-hwa was informed by the relevant department that tree roots had invaded the sewage pipes. He instructed that the school be consulted and measures taken to prevent the trees from invading the sewage pipes.

Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang City said, “I will go anywhere where the voices of citizens, the future and compass of city administration, can be heard,” and added, “I will strive to think intensely and work harder to create a city with a high citizen happiness index and to provide an administration that impresses citizens.”
