UAM refers to aerial transportation means that carry people and cargo over urban areas. It is gaining attention as a next-generation transportation method that is low-noise and environmentally friendly. At the government level, the UAM industry has been selected as one of the top 10 national strategic technology projects, with demonstration projects underway aiming for commercialization by 2030.

The 'UAM Industry Working Group' task force launched in Pyeongtaek consists of 15 experts from public institutions, research institutes, academia, and companies. It is expected to provide advice and recommendations for creating a UAM industry ecosystem.

Through the task force, the city plans to pursue ▲establishing the vision and promotion strategies for the UAM industry ▲building a UAM network ▲attracting companies ▲participating in government public project competitions, among other initiatives.

Kim Tae-ho, CEO of Port One, who gave the keynote presentation that day, said, "Pyeongtaek, equipped with Pyeongtaek Port and the Pyeongtaek Jije Station complex transfer center, is a city with geographical and environmental competitiveness in the aviation transportation industry," adding, "We will work together with Pyeongtaek City to develop differentiated strategies and strive to revitalize the UAM industry."

Pyeongtaek City plans to conduct a 'UAM Industry Development Plan Research Project' next year based on expert advice to prepare a comprehensive roadmap.

Jung Jang-seon, Mayor of Pyeongtaek City, said, "We will strive to secure leadership in the UAM industry through synergy with the region’s semiconductor and hydrogen industries, so that UAM can soar powerfully in the skies of Pyeongtaek."
