Jinseongjun: "Yoon Government Commits Acts Deserving of 'National Humiliation'... Will Pursue Public Office Prohibition Law if Japanese Imperialism is Glorified"

Democratic Party to Consider Making Bill Party Policy After Proposal
Chairman Jin Seong-jun Mentions Dokdo Issue Using 'Chamjeol' Expression

Jin Seong-jun, the Policy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 20th, "We will legislate to prevent those who glorify Japanese colonial rule or praise pro-Japanese anti-national acts from entering public office or public institutions," adding, "We will also initiate the party consensus process."

At the Democratic Party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Chair Jin said, "The Democratic Party will never tolerate the treasonous behavior of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration. We will actively pursue legislation to protect the country and safeguard national sovereignty."

He mentioned, "It seems that what is important to the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is not our country but Japan," adding, "Kim Tae-hyo, the First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, said 'What matters is Japan's sentiment,' and the Presidential Office also stated that there is fatigue due to dozens of official apologies since the establishment of Korea-Japan diplomatic relations." He continued, "When asked why General Kim Jwa-jin was excluded from military spirit education materials, a People Power Party spokesperson said it was because of his connection to communism."

Chair Jin strongly criticized the current government's stance on Dokdo, saying, "There are even acts that could be called territorial usurpation." He stated, "The Ministry of National Defense marked Dokdo as a disputed territory in basic training materials for soldiers, a New Right figure from Nakseongdae who denies Dokdo as Korean territory was appointed as the head of the Academy of Korean Studies, the biannual Dokdo defense drills have no plans this year, the word 'Dokdo' disappeared from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' presidential work report since 2022, and the Dokdo model installed in subway stations ahead of Liberation Day was removed." He added, "What is usurpation? It refers to occupying all or part of a nation's territory, effectively excluding the exercise of national sovereignty and threatening the nation's existence and stability. Given what I just mentioned, isn't this clearly usurpation?"

No Jong-myeon, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, also told reporters after the floor strategy meeting, "We are considering legislation to restrict and punish those who glorify Japanese colonial rule and anti-national acts, and furthermore, if positions related to the sovereignty over Dokdo significantly contradict the interests of the Republic of Korea, we will consider such legislation." He added, "We will actively review whether to push for party consensus as specific bills are developed." He warned, "Especially in cases where the sovereignty issue severely infringes on Korea's national interests, it could amount to treason."

Meanwhile, regarding his reappointment as Policy Committee Chair, Chair Jin expressed, "I am grateful that the new leadership and party members have recognized and respected my convictions as the party's policy leader," and said, "Going forward, I will strive to be a competent economic policy party and a governing party that adheres to the party's principles and labor-management policies while promptly responding to the people's demands."
