Parents Give Smoothies and Vitamins to 12-Year-Old Daughter with Critical Injuries Without Taking Her to Hospital

"I Thought I Would Regain Health at Home"

A teenage girl in the United States who suffered serious injuries was unable to go to the hospital and was fed only smoothies and vitamins by her parents, eventually leading to her death.

According to the New York Post and NBC News on the 19th (local time), Miranda Sips, a 12-year-old girl living in Texas, sustained serious injuries but did not receive proper treatment in time and died after four days.

Previously, Miranda, who was active as a cheerleader at school, suffered life-threatening injuries. However, her mother, Denise Balbaneda (36), and stepfather, Gerald Gonzalez (40), did not take Miranda to the hospital. Instead, they tried to treat Miranda at home by giving her smoothies and vitamins.

However, when Miranda soon complained of difficulty breathing, they called an ambulance belatedly. Miranda was transported to the hospital but died on the same day. It was reported that before being taken to the hospital, Miranda was only able to blink her eyes and move her hands slightly.

It has not yet been revealed how Miranda was injured or how severe the injuries were. Investigators are currently looking into the detailed circumstances of the incident.

Local police explained that although Miranda was in a serious condition with almost no consciousness, her parents did not seek medical assistance. Miranda’s parents were arrested the day after her death and charged with first-degree felony child abuse. They are currently detained with bail set at $200,000 (approximately 267.8 million KRW).

Miranda’s parents reportedly told local police that they believed they could nurse their daughter back to health at home without taking her to the hospital.
