Busan Transportation Corporation Completes Improvement of Flood Control Facilities in Preparation for Typhoons and Heavy Rain

Pre-inspection of 784 Entrances and 549 Ventilation Ducts

Facility Improvements at 705 Sites, Raised Ventilation Ducts at 49 Locations

Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) announced on the 20th that it has completed a comprehensive inspection of entrances and ventilation shafts at 90 underground stations and underground shopping malls on Lines 1 to 4, which are at risk of flooding, and has finished maintenance and installation of flood prevention facilities in preparation for typhoons and heavy rain.

To prevent flooding accidents inside stations during heavy rain and floods, the corporation conducted a full inspection of 784 station entrances and 549 ventilation shafts at 90 underground stations on Lines 1 to 4.

Based on the results of the inspection and the 'Busan City Urban Flood Integrated Information,' 754 out of 1,333 entrances and ventilation shafts that required maintenance were identified and facility improvements have been completed.

First, the corporation focused on fully equipping flood prevention facilities at 705 station entrances, including those in underground shopping malls, by ▲ raising the height of flood barriers to 1 meter ▲ installing transparent flood walls and increasing the side wall height to 1 meter ▲ and adding additional flood barriers. In addition, transparent flood walls with a height of 1 meter from the sidewalk level were installed at 49 station ventilation shafts.

Furthermore, the corporation conducted safety inspections of all facilities and construction sites on Lines 1 to 4 in preparation for typhoons and heavy rain, and additionally checked and reinforced maintenance conditions and vulnerable areas.

Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "We have maintained flood prevention facilities as a proactive safety measure in preparation for upcoming typhoons and heavy rain," and added, "In addition, we will continue to inspect facilities at risk of flooding to ensure that citizens can use the urban railway safely from disasters such as heavy rainfall."
