The couple, who are in a romantic relationship, committed the crime by inserting foreign substances such as threads into the delivered food themselves, taking photos, showing them to the self-employed owners, and then demanding refunds. Known as a couple, they used this method of inserting foreign substances like threads into the delivered food, photographing it, showing it to the restaurants, and demanding refunds.
A self-employed person recalled experiencing this method while working as a restaurant employee and posted the story on the self-employed online community 'Apeunikka Sajangida' ("Because It Hurts, I'm the Boss"), which led to other owners saying "I was hit the same way," resulting in their capture. The victim businesses ranged from restaurants to dessert shops, cafes, and late-night snack specialty stores, with the number of victims investigated reaching 127.
The police have been focusing on uncovering additional crimes after receiving complaints and petitions from the affected business owners in June, charging the suspects with obstruction of business and fraud. A police official stated, "The amount of damage per person was about the cost of food for two people, and the types of food establishments affected ranged from meals to desserts," adding, "Since many victims were expected, we expanded the investigation independently and arrested the suspects."
