Actor Choi Min-sik spoke about the controversy surrounding the film 'Pamyoh'.

On the 17th, Choi Min-sik appeared as a guest on MBC's 'Son Seok-hee's Questions' and shared his thoughts on his works. On that day, MC Son Seok-hee asked him, "'Pamyoh' has been called an anti-Japanese film by some. What are your thoughts on this?"

Choi Min-sik replied, "When I heard that, I wondered why people think that way," adding, "Director Jang Jae-hyun visited the Independence Hall during his research and became emotional when he saw traces of Kim Sang-deok, the chairman of the Special Investigation Committee on Anti-National Acts, and he cried. I really felt the sincerity in that." He continued, "If you look at it that way, Admiral Yi Sun-sin in 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' would also be considered anti-Japanese, right? Because he defeated them recklessly, that’s openly anti-Japanese, isn’t it?"

When Son Seok-hee responded, "This is the first time I've heard such an interpretation. It's new," Choi Min-sik drew a line on the controversy by saying, "The film was not intended to be anti-Japanese from the beginning."

Meanwhile, Kim Deok-young, director of 'The Founding War,' which deals with President Rhee Syngman, criticized on SNS in February, saying, "'The Founding War' has surpassed 960,000 viewers," and "This week seems to be the biggest hurdle. Leftists are flocking to 'Pamyoh,' which again stirs up anti-Japanese sentiment."

'Pamyoh' is a film about uncovering a strange grave located in Akji, and it has been praised for setting a new record in occult films by surpassing 11.91 million total viewers.
