Angered by Rising Sun Flag Criticism... Japanese Far-Right Creates Fake Account Impersonating Professor Seokyeongdeok

Seokyeongdeok, Troubled by SNS Impersonation Accounts
"An Act That Further Damages Japan's Image"

Professor Seokyung Deok of Sungshin Women's University warned about social media accounts impersonating him.

On the 19th, Professor Seo pointed out on his Facebook, "Around Liberation Day, Japanese far-right groups have been using impersonation accounts to promote Dokdo and the Rising Sun Flag on social media, causing controversy." He added, "Upon checking, various impersonation accounts are making baseless claims."

According to Professor Seo, these impersonation accounts used his face as their profile picture and posted as if he were claiming "Takeshima is Japanese territory" and "The Rising Sun Flag is a beautiful flag."

He said, "Some netizens were fooled by these impersonation accounts and sent direct messages (DMs) like 'I didn't expect you to change your mind' and 'I'm really disappointed,' which was somewhat embarrassing. For over 20 years, I have been subjected to constant verbal abuse and death threats, not only towards me but also my family, and now they are creating impersonation accounts to harass me."

Professor Seo emphasized, "Does doing this make Dokdo Japanese territory? Such foolish acts only further damage Japan's image. Do not be deceived by the impersonation accounts of the Japanese far-right." Finally, he said, "Our citizens, who can freely visit Dokdo, should work harder to strengthen effective control through promoting tourism."

This is not the first time Professor Seo has expressed distress over impersonation. In December last year, he said, "I am really frustrated because of impersonation accounts," explaining, "I once received a report saying 'Do you have money to promote Dokdo?' but I have never sent a DM asking for money to promote Dokdo." He criticized, "Previous impersonation accounts were not this bad, but recently they have really crossed the line."
