379 People Received First Comprehensive Income Tax Filing Notice
Average 46.73 Million KRW per Person...Employee Annual Salary Level
Users of secondhand trading platforms such as Danggeun Market recorded average sales of over 46 million KRW in the first comprehensive income tax filing guidance of this year.
On the 19th, 'Yonhap News' reported, citing data submitted by the National Tax Service (NTS) to Park Seong-hoon of the People Power Party, that among the secondhand trading platform users who received filing guidance from the NTS this year, 379 individuals reported a total income of 17.714 billion KRW. This amounts to an average of 46.73 million KRW per person, a figure close to the average annual salary of regular full-time workers in South Korea.
The filers are users who conducted 'substantial' transactions on secondhand trading platforms including Danggeun Market and were thus notified by the tax authorities to file.
In particular, the top 10 earners reported sales of 2.254 billion KRW, averaging 225 million KRW per person. However, the reported income includes not only secondhand transactions but also income from e-commerce such as open markets.
Meanwhile, in May, the NTS sent comprehensive income tax filing guidance to 525 secondhand trading platform users presumed to be business operators rather than general users.
At that time, concerns were raised that general secondhand trading users might also be subject to taxation. In response, Kang Min-soo, Commissioner of the NTS, stated at last month's confirmation hearing that measures such as raising the income threshold would be considered.
Assemblyman Park Seong-hoon emphasized, "It is essential to completely eliminate tax evasion loopholes in secondhand trading platforms," but also stressed, "Continuous inspection and management, including the establishment of reasonable taxation standards, are necessary to prevent innocent victims from occurring in the process."
