On the 23rd at 3 PM, Top Domestic Orchestra 'Seoul Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra' Performance at Songpa Book Museum
Classical and Non-Classical Music Feast with Host Commentary... Free Admission Without Reservation for Everyone
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that the 'Museum Concert,' hosted in collaboration with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, will be held for free at 3 p.m. on the 23rd at the Eoullim Hall on the 1st floor of the Songpa Book Museum (77, Songpa-daero 37-gil).
The 'Museum Concert' is a classical chamber music performance that began last year under the theme of 'a moment of rest encountered in an unexpected place.' Members of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra visit major museums and art galleries in Seoul to fill cultural spaces with sweet melodies.
On the 23rd, at the end of summer, the Museum Concert will also come to the Songpa Book Museum, Korea's first public book museum. A 60-minute performance by the top domestic orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, will take place in Eoullim Hall, a multipurpose stepped space located at the center of the museum.
In particular, Eoullim Hall, with its beautiful and open interior, is loved as a reading space and resting place filled with books. Audience members can enjoy a special cultural and artistic experience by temporarily putting aside the books they were reading and immersing themselves in the world of music through this small concert.
The performance will be conducted as a chamber music ensemble with various instruments such as piano, marimba (a type of xylophone), flute, and horn. The program includes not only classical music but also a complex mix of non-classical genres, accompanied by explanations from the Seoul Philharmonic's music librarian, who makes classical music easy to understand for the audience.
This planned performance, which harmonizes the two themes of 'books' and 'music,' is significant in expanding opportunities for high-quality cultural and artistic experiences in daily life by offering local residents access to classical music performances that are usually difficult to encounter. As it is a stage for skilled musicians, careful arrangements including the import and installation of sound equipment will be made to complete a refined stage.
The performance starting at 3 p.m. on that day is free of charge for all seats, and no separate reservation is required; admission is on a first-come, first-served basis from 2 p.m. More detailed information such as the order of performances and pieces can be found on the official website of the Songpa Book Museum.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “This is a great opportunity for family visitors who find it difficult to visit regular concert halls to experience a high-quality music performance without going far.” He added, “We hope you spend a special day full of culture and arts by enjoying not only the exhibitions but also the beautiful music performances at the Songpa Book Museum, filled with the scent of books.”
