On the 16th, a post titled "Got fined for violating disabled parking zone" was uploaded on an online community. The author, Mr. A, who lives in Nam-gu, Gwangju, complained that he received a registered mail regarding a violation of the disabled-only parking zone that morning. However, Mr. A, who had no memory of illegally parking in a disabled parking space, was confused. Then he recalled the night of the 8th. He explained, "That evening, I had no place to park, so I double-parked and put the gear in 'N' (neutral). After finishing a company dinner, I remember the designated driver double-parked the car for me," adding, "The next morning, when I went to move the car, it was parked in the disabled parking zone."
Feeling suspicious, Mr. A checked his car’s black box footage. The footage showed a man pushing Mr. A’s car, which was blocking his own car. Mr. A claimed, "This man created space for the car to get out but pushed the car all the way into the disabled-only parking zone," and added, "He pushed the car at 7:19 a.m., and I left for work at 8:20 a.m. I was reported for a parking violation within that one hour." Mr. A lamented, "I can accept being reported, but moving the car into the disabled-only parking zone is too much." He also added that he could not confirm whether the person who pushed the car and the person who reported it were the same.
Netizens responded with comments such as, "Take the black box footage and file an objection with the district office," "If this is true, it’s really unfair," "Was this retaliation for double-parking?" and "The person who moved the car into the disabled parking zone should pay the fine."
Meanwhile, illegally parking in a disabled-only parking zone results in a fine of 100,000 KRW, and obstructing disabled people from parking in these zones can lead to a maximum fine of 500,000 KRW. Additionally, forging or altering disabled vehicle stickers incurs a fine of 2,000,000 KRW, and a fine of 100,000 KRW is imposed if the sticker’s validity period has expired.
