Jang Kyung-tae was elected as the chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea's Seoul City Party Committee. The newly appointed chairman Jang promised victory in the local elections.
On the afternoon of the 17th, at the regular party members' meeting held at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, Jang was elected as the new chairman of the Seoul City Party Committee with 93.0% approval from 91,762 voters. Jang was the sole candidate in the Democratic Party's Seoul City Party Committee chairman election, which was conducted by a yes-or-no vote. The voter turnout was 43.3%.
In his acceptance speech, Jang said, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration is an extreme right-wing, unofficial, and spy government, and the Oh Se-hoon city administration has degenerated into an incompetent, irresponsible, and powerless administration," adding, "I believe the Seoul City Party Committee must stand at the forefront and vanguard to end such a government and administration."
He stated, "Together with the representatives and supreme council members to be elected tomorrow, I will recreate the victory of the 2018 local elections and the victory in Seoul city administration," and declared, "I will become the chairman of the Seoul City Party Committee who can achieve the greatest victory."
