Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon criticized President Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "Is public safety in Gyeonggi Province a joke?" after the Chief of the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency was appointed as the Chief of the Seoul Police Agency just 53 days after his inauguration.
On the 17th, Governor Kim posted on his social media, strongly condemning, "The Chief of the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency was summoned to become the Chief of the Seoul Police Agency just 53 days after taking office. Mr. President, is the position of Chief of the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency a rapid promotion transfer center?"
He added, "Is the safety of 14.1 million people in Gyeonggi Province a joke?" and lamented, "What will be the conclusion of the investigation into the Hwaseong fire incident?"
Earlier, Kim Bong-sik, Chief of the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency, was promoted to Police Commissioner earlier this month and transferred to the Seoul Police Agency in less than two months after his appointment. It is known that Kim Bong-sik has ties with President Yoon from when the latter worked at the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office and Daegu High Prosecutors' Office. Under the current administration, Kim Bong-sik has rapidly advanced through the ranks from Police Superintendent to Police Commissioner.
