Presidential Office: "Former Minister Jeon Hyun-hee Must Publicly Apologize for 'Murderer' Remarks Toward President Yoon and First Lady"

"Without an Apology, Rep. Park's Expression of Regret Is False"

The Presidential Office on the 16th demanded a public apology from Democratic Party lawmaker Jeon Hyun-hee regarding her recent remarks calling President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Geon-hee "murderers."


A Presidential Office official told reporters that afternoon, "Lawmaker Jeon must publicly apologize to the people and the presidential couple."


Regarding Democratic Party acting party leader and floor leader Park Chan-dae's expression of regret over Jeon's remarks that day, the official pointed out, "If Jeon does not apologize, Park's expression of regret must be false."


Acting party leader Park responded to a question about the remarks at a Kwanhun Club invited discussion, saying, "If the public found it offensive and unpleasant, I sincerely regret it." He added, "We politicians will strive to speak words that the public deems necessary and acceptable."


Earlier, on the 14th, during a procedural statement at the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee hearing, Jeon claimed that the recent death of a senior official at the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission was related to the closure of the case involving First Lady Kim's luxury handbag incident, referring to President Yoon and First Lady Kim as "murderers."


The day before, the People Power Party urged, regarding Jeon's "murderer" remarks toward President Yoon and First Lady Kim, "Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party must take responsibility for the abusive language and apologize to the presidential couple." The People Power Party submitted a resolution calling for Jeon's expulsion, signed by all 108 party members.
