Sports Artist Park Seungwoo Creates
34 Champions Including First Winner Han Jangsang Appear
Club72 Ocean Course Held from September 5
Shinhan Financial Group has unveiled a commemorative art poster ahead of the 40th Shinhan Donghae Open (total prize money of 1.4 billion KRW).
The poster was created by sports artist Seungwoo Park (Kaze Park). He is the artist behind works commemorating the 2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup Korean national team, English professional football club Manchester City, the 20th anniversary of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, and last year's 40th anniversary of the K League. The poster vividly depicts a total of 34 past champions, including the inaugural winner Jang-sang Han and the 39th champion Goon-taek Go.
The poster features the sun rising from the tournament title "Donghae," a reproduction stone pagoda of the Dabotap Pagoda placed at the Koma Country Club in Japan?where the establishment of the Shinhan Donghae Open was decided?and Sungnyemun Gate, symbolizing Korea. The Shinhan Donghae Open was founded in 1981, led by the late Hee-geon Lee, Honorary Chairman of Shinhan Bank, along with Korean-Japanese golf enthusiasts from the Kansai region of Japan to nurture outstanding athletes from their homeland. It is the longest-running purely domestically sponsored professional golf tournament in Korea.
The Shinhan Donghae Open organizers explained, "This work was created to commemorate the 40th Shinhan Donghae Open. It was produced to honor the numerous past participants and the golf fans who have attended each tournament." This year’s Shinhan Donghae Open will be held over four days from September 5 to 8 at Club72 Ocean Course (par 72, 7,204 yards) in Yeongjongdo, Incheon. The winner’s prize money is 252 million KRW.
