Comeback After One Year at Lexus Masters on the 29th
Submitted Sick Leave for Finger Injury in August Last Year, a 'Trial'
"I Will Prove That I Am Still Strong"
‘Crocodile’ Maeng Dong-seop is making his comeback.
He will participate in the newly established Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Tour event, the Lexus Masters (total prize money of 1 billion KRW), which opens on the 29th at A-One CC in Yangsan, Gyeongnam. This marks his return to the field after a year since he took a medical leave due to a finger injury last August. He said, "I am excited to return to the tour after a long time. On the other hand, having been active for over 15 years, I also feel calm. I want to prove that the player Maeng Dong-seop is still going strong."
Maeng Dong-seop is a veteran who joined the KPGA Tour in 2009 and has won a total of three times. His nickname is ‘Crocodile.’ Like a crocodile that never lets go once it bites its prey, he is the type to seize opportunities when chances come. In his debut year, he claimed his first victory at the Johnny Walker Blue Label Open after a playoff against Bae Sang-moon and Kim Dae-seop. He later won the DB Insurance Promy Open in 2017 and the KB Financial Live Championship in 2018.
He stated, "My finger injury is not 100% healed, but it does not cause discomfort when playing. I have trained hard to return to the tour. The most encouraging thing is that now, rather than worrying about the injury, I am able to showcase the play I want."
After stepping away from the field due to injury, Maeng Dong-seop has become more mature. "If you are a golf player, you should play golf. Also, if you are a tour player, competing on the tour stage suits you best. I have realized the preciousness of being able to play golf and compete on the tour. Since this is the place I wanted to return to, I will do my best in every tournament I enter."
