On the 15th (local time), Radio Free Asia (RFA) cited an internal source saying, "North Korea declared a ban on 'sutakmeori' and 'see-through' clothing in a lecture targeting the entire population."

North Korea reportedly defined such fashion as "anti-socialist and non-socialist phenomena that undermine the system and must be eradicated."

An informant from North Hamgyong Province told RFA, "A video lecture was held for residents last week, emphasizing the prohibition of the recently popular sutakmeori hairstyle and the wearing of clothes that reveal the skin."

If caught violating these regulations in North Korea, one may be sentenced to 3 to 6 months of labor training camp, and in some cases, re-education punishment is also possible. Labor training is similar to South Korea's community service order system, while re-education punishment is akin to imprisonment.

It was confirmed that when sutakmeori is cracked down on, the hair is cut as part of the punishment. The source explained, "Sutakmeori is a style where long hair is tied up to the crown, and the bangs cover the forehead, obscuring one eye," adding, "Most residents who watched the video recalled Hyon Song-wol, who frequently appears at events with the Supreme Leader (Kim Jong-un)."

A source from North Pyongan Province also explained, "The two fashions banned by the Party recently became popular among young women mainly in Pyongyang. Most of the punishment cases shown in the video were also detected in Pyongyang."

Finally, the source criticized, "The Supreme Leader's daughter (Kim Ju-ae) has also appeared wearing the same clothes. But I don't understand why it becomes anti-socialist when the people wear them."
