Suwon City Creates Four Open Street Forest Paths for Urban Enjoyment

Suwon City Creates Four Open Street Forest Paths for Urban Enjoyment An open street forest path created by Suwon City to enjoy within the urban area

Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is creating an "open street forest path to enjoy within the urban area" by planting customized trees and perennial flowers along four routes, including Songwon-ro in Jangan-gu. This project aims to expand simple sidewalk spaces into multifunctional areas that provide rest and support for local cultural activities.

From last year through the first half of this year, Suwon City established a 2.8 km rest-oriented street forest path along two routes: Songwon-ro in Jangan-gu and Dongsuwon-ro in Gwonseon-gu. The city planted 443 trees such as Blue Angel junipers, 9,821 shrubs including Pink Velvet crepe myrtles, and 38,986 perennial flowers such as Liatris.

Additionally, the city installed five backrest benches, 28 single-person benches, and 175 meters of "manner blocks" as rest facilities.

In the second half of the year, Suwon City will add another 2.8 km of rest-oriented street forest paths along Manseok-ro in Jangan-gu and Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu. The city will also create "Safe Green Forests for Children" along school routes near residential areas and utilize idle spaces along roads and sidewalks to provide citizens with pleasant resting spaces.

A Suwon City official stated, "Under the vision of creating a Green City, Suwon is emphasizing the beauty of the city through street trees and developing urban forests that citizens can enjoy. We will continue to promote the street forest path project to create spaces where citizens can experience nature and relax within the city."
