Public-Private Partnership Customized Health Management and Dementia Prevention Activities
Various Programs Including Handicraft Making and Workbook Education
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) conducted the "Senior Citizens' Brain Travel Program" for elderly residents in dementia-safe villages.
This program was planned to promote the health of senior citizens and prevent dementia. Since June, it has been implemented at eight senior centers located in five dementia-safe villages (Junghwa 2-dong, Myeonmok 2-dong, Myeonmok 4-dong, Sinnae 1-dong, Junghwa 1-dong).
The program was carried out in connection with the "Visiting Senior Center Health Management Project." A team consisting of visiting nurses and medical professionals from private institutions, including doctors, dentists, oriental medicine doctors, and pharmacists, visited the senior centers to provide comprehensive health management for the elderly.
A dementia-specialized volunteer instructor led various activities such as ▲ dementia prevention exercises ▲ making handicraft items ▲ workbook education. Additionally, an oriental medicine doctor provided one-on-one customized health consultations and checked health conditions through pulse diagnosis. The program also offered overall health education on hypertension, diabetes, and medication usage, receiving great positive feedback from the senior participants.
One elderly participant shared, "It was fun to have my own item like making an eco bag, and although it was short, I grew very fond of it," expressing a desire to participate again if such programs are offered in the future.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi stated, "Since dementia prevention and management are very important, we plan to actively support dementia prevention programs and education going forward," adding, "We will strive to make Jungnang-gu a place where even if dementia occurs, residents can live safely and comfortably."
The district plans to hold various events in September, including ▲ exhibitions of handicraft works by dementia patients and their families ▲ experiences of dementia prevention programs using information and communication technology ▲ musical performances by seniors with mild cognitive impairment, allowing residents to participate directly.
