On the 15th, the People Power Party urged Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, and the party to take responsibility for the abusive remarks made by Democratic Party lawmaker Jeon Hyun-hee, who called President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Geon-hee "murderers," and to apologize to the presidential couple.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party announced that it would push for the expulsion of People Power Party lawmaker Song Seok-jun, who made "inappropriate remarks" toward Democratic Party lawmaker Jeon Hyun-hee during the 'Prosecutor Impeachment' hearing of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee the previous day.
Park Jun-tae, the floor spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary that day, "The Democratic Party unilaterally criticized the presidential couple based on brain-fictions (baseless thoughts)," and pointed out, "The Democratic Party must recognize the seriousness of lawmaker Jeon's remarks and hold her accountable."
During the 'Prosecutor Impeachment' hearing of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee the previous day, lawmaker Jeon claimed that the recent death of a senior official from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission was related to the closure of the case involving First Lady Kim's handbag, using the term "murderer" to criticize President Yoon and First Lady Kim.
The People Power Party submitted a resolution calling for lawmaker Jeon's expulsion with the signatures of all 108 party members.
In response, the Democratic Party announced it would push for the expulsion of lawmaker Song Seok-jun. Song had shouted at lawmaker Jeon, who was speaking about the tragic death of the director of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, who was in charge of the allegations regarding First Lady Kim Geon-hee's luxury handbag, saying, "Reflect on yourself first. Are you not guilty of that person's death?"
No Jong-myeon, the floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party, demanded in a written briefing, "What on earth does lawmaker Jeon have to do with the death of the Anti-Corruption Commission director?" and said, "Lawmaker Song, who insulted a fellow lawmaker by exploiting the deceased's death for political strife and using abusive dirty play, must apologize to the public and the deceased."
