"The possibility of reproducing even a pandemic situation is low"

The Presidential Office recently stated regarding the resurgence of COVID-19, "The outbreak is expected to continue until the end of August," and "additional treatments will be secured within this month."
On the afternoon of the 14th, a Presidential Office official met with reporters at the Yongsan Presidential Office and said, "Considering the characteristic that COVID-19 has resurged every summer and winter, it is expected that the outbreak will continue until the end of August this year as well.
He added, "The currently spreading COVID-19 does not seem likely to reproduce a pandemic situation in terms of transmissibility or severity," but "the government will take proactive measures."
The official said, "The government plans to secure and supply additional treatments within this month to ensure there is no shortage in the use of treatments," and "the treatment system for severe hospitalized patients is also being continuously reviewed."
He continued, "The government will expand and strengthen its response organization to monitor COVID-19 variants," and "I would also like to mention that we are closely monitoring the occurrence of hospitalized patients and overseas trends."
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the number of COVID-19 hospitalized patients in the first week of this month was 861, which is double compared to the previous week (465). This is the highest level in the past six months since the first week of February (875).
