The Presidential Office on the 14th demanded an official apology and explanation from the Democratic Party of Korea regarding Assemblywoman Jeon Hyun-hee, who described First Lady Kim Keon-hee as a "murderer," stating that she "uttered words so outrageous they cannot be spoken."

They also pointed out, "It is the Democratic Party that pressured the public service community, ultimately leading to the deceased's death."

Presidential Office spokesperson Jung Hye-jeon held a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office that afternoon and said, "We cannot help but feel sorrow over the opposition party's lowly behavior of exploiting even the tragic death of a public official for political attacks once again."

Earlier, Assemblywoman Jeon stated during a procedural speech at the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee hearing that the recent death of a senior official at the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) was related to the closure of the case involving First Lady Kim's luxury handbag incident at the ACRC, claiming, "Kim Keon-hee is a murderer," and "Kim Keon-hee and Yoon Seok-yeol killed the director. They are murderers."

Spokesperson Jung emphasized, "Today, the Democratic Party uttered words so outrageous they cannot be spoken toward the family of the President of the Republic of Korea, who was elected by the people, in the National Assembly, the hall of public opinion. Spewing harsh words based on baseless and unilateral claims is a violation of human rights against an individual and an insult to the people."

He continued, "It is none other than the Democratic Party that pressured the public service community by frequently summoning public officials to the National Assembly to intimidate them, threatening to revoke their pensions if they did not comply, ultimately leading to the deceased's death."

Spokesperson Jung explained, "If the opposition party feels any responsibility, they should immediately stop politicizing the deceased's death," adding, "The Democratic Party's claims regarding the death of the public official are nothing but sophistry. On the contrary, the public service community is appealing that the opposition party's indiscriminate pressure has become an overwhelming burden."

He also stressed, "We demand an official apology and a satisfactory explanation from the Democratic Party," and added, "In particular, Assemblywoman Jeon Hyun-hee, a former chairperson of the ACRC who uttered these outrageous words, raises questions about whether she feels any sense of responsibility for having devastated the ACRC. The public will be outraged that the National Assembly, which should be discussing people’s livelihoods, has become a free zone for irresponsible remarks."

A Presidential Office official said, "We have officially requested an apology and explanation from the Democratic Party, so we will observe the opposition party's stance first," and added, "After observing, we will be able to make a statement."
