Kocca Hosts Screenings in Tokyo, Niigata, and Osaka
Talk Shows with Cast Members from 'True Beauty' and 'Dae Jo-yeong'
A platform will be established to widely promote K-dramas in Japan. The Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korean Cultural Center in Japan are hosting ‘Korean Drama Selection 2024’ five times across three locations?Tokyo, Niigata, and Osaka?until October.
This event introduces Korean dramas currently airing or scheduled to air locally to Hallyu fans, aiming to continuously expand the Korean Wave. It features drama screenings and talk shows with actors participating in person.
In Tokyo, screenings are held on the 20th and 23rd following the initial event on the 13th. At the first screening held on the 13th at the Korean Cultural Center in Japan, actor Kim Byung-chun, who has played supporting roles in various dramas for over 40 years, participated. He shared behind-the-scenes stories from his works such as ‘The Red Sleeve Cuff’, ‘Unlock My Boss’, and ‘True Beauty’. Actors Min Young-gi from ‘Escape of the Seven’ and Lee Se-on from ‘Boss Dolmart’ are scheduled to appear in the talk shows on the 20th and 23rd, respectively.
The Niigata screening on the 18th of next month will be held in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Niigata as part of the ‘Korea-Japan Chuseok Festival in Niigata 2024’. Actor Park Yoo-seung, who played Choi Sa-wi in ‘Goryeo-Khitan War’, will appear in the talk show to discuss popular local dramas such as ‘Taejo Wang Geon’ and ‘Dae Jo-yeong’.
At the Osaka screening on October 20th, actor Kwon Hyun-bin, known from the survival program ‘Produce 101’ and the lead in ‘Love’s Andante’, will attend to mark the finale of the event.
The screenings will showcase a total of fourteen works, the largest number ever, ranging from webtoon-based dramas to epic historical dramas. Titles include ‘Yumi’s Cells’, ‘The Crown Prince Disappeared’, ‘Escape of the Seven’, ‘Goryeo-Khitan War’, ‘Taxi Driver 2’, ‘The Real Has Appeared!’, and ‘Ghost Doctor’.
Gong Hyung-sik, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Japan, said, “Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, a meaningful year that calls for advancing beyond cultural exchange and enjoyment to mutual growth and cooperation. We will strive to help K-dramas grow into a core business in Japan and receive the love of many local fans.”
