Pohang Steelworks Collaborates with AMSquare and SensingPlus to Improve Productivity

POSCO Pohang Steelworks is promoting smart manufacturing innovation in collaboration with local small and venture businesses.

Meeting for technology development between a smart technology specialized venture company and POSCO (AMsquare).

By carrying out innovative smart projects with local venture companies, the steelworks is not only strengthening its technological capabilities but also encouraging local settlement of talented individuals from venture companies, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the regional economy.

Pohang Steelworks is currently conducting joint projects in the fields of artificial intelligence and imaging technology with AMSquare and SensingPlus, both resident companies at Pohang ChangeUp Ground.

In this project, POSCO shares industrial site data and steelmaking process know-how, while the venture companies utilize the latest smart technologies and innovative analytical ideas to develop smart prediction models.

Through this process, both sides continuously exchange feedback and advance their technologies together.

In particular, through cooperation with AMSquare, which excels in the field of artificial intelligence, Pohang Steelworks is building a smart manufacturing system that applies AI technology to production processes.

Representative projects include the advancement of the optimal timing control model for material extraction from reheating furnaces at the hot rolling mill, and the development of a slab quality prediction model at the STS cold rolling mill.

With SensingPlus, a company specializing in image analysis, high-resolution 3D scanners and cameras were used to precisely survey the entrances of the hot rolling mill and STS cold rolling mill, resulting in the development of sophisticated 3D modeling.

Through this, Pohang Steelworks is establishing the foundation for digital twin technology and remote inspection of high-risk areas.
