UNIST, Pride of Ulsan, Presents the ‘UNIST PIONEERS PLATFORM’
"I will nurture UNIST into a world-class university like Stanford and make it a source of pride for Ulsan."
Dr. Jongrae Park, the 5th President of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, is holding an inauguration ceremony.
This is the vision expressed by Park Jongrae, the 5th President of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), at his inauguration ceremony on the morning of the 14th.
More than 400 people, including key figures such as Song Jaeho, Chairperson of the UNIST Board of Trustees, Ahn Hyodae, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Ulsan, and Lee Soongeol, Head of Ulju County, as well as faculty, staff, and students, attended the ceremony to congratulate President Park on the beginning of his tenure. In his congratulatory address, Chairperson Song expressed his expectations, saying, "Under President Park's leadership, UNIST will achieve a new leap forward."
In his inaugural address, President Park emphasized, "Ulsan is the land of pioneers who have led South Korea's economic growth," and added, "The growth of UNIST, which has pioneered a new future on this foundation, is directly linked to the growth of Ulsan."
He went on to declare, "The top priority for UNIST is to foster 'PIONEERS-type' talent equipped with creative insight and integrative connectivity."
President Park presented three strategies to strengthen UNIST's global competitiveness: the PIONEERS Talent Education Platform, a customized convergence research platform tailored to each stage of technological evolution, and a glocal win-win cooperation platform. Through these, he aims to propel UNIST onto the world stage.
He also added that he would strengthen the university's uniqueness and establish a culture of connection and collaboration.

President Park earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in textile engineering from Seoul National University and his doctorate from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. He has served as CEO of Seoul National University Holdings, Chair of the Subcommittee on Infrastructure at the National Science and Technology Advisory Council, and Chair of the Special Committee on Regulatory Sandbox for Research and Development Special Zones.
