Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is speaking at a press conference held at Dodamso in Suwon on the 14th.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced that next year, Gyeonggi will lead the climate economy agenda by launching Korea's first climate satellite, establishing the Gyeonggi RE100 Fund, and promoting climate insurance enrollment.
At a press briefing held on the 14th at Dodamso in Suwon (the former governor's residence), Governor Kim emphasized, "Next year, we will pursue new projects such as launching a climate satellite, establishing the Gyeonggi RE100 Fund, and promoting climate insurance enrollment."
He first stated, "The central government has not been able to launch a climate satellite, but Gyeonggi aims to launch one by 2026. We plan to launch three satellites," adding, "Gyeonggi will make partial investments and attract private capital to proceed very quickly."
He expressed expectations, saying, "(The satellites) will play a role in real-time observation, allowing us to see emission sources and absorption sources across the entire Gyeonggi Province at a glance."
In particular, he said, "The satellite industry will become a new emerging industry in our country," adding, "Many companies are currently interested. The satellite industry and related sectors require data conversion of images, etc., so the upstream and downstream industrial effects are also very significant."
Governor Kim explained, "We also plan to introduce the Gyeonggi RE100 Fund next year," adding, "Some local cooperatives produce renewable energy and operate profits in the form of dividends, and some cities and counties have similar projects, but Gyeonggi is the first to promote a profit-sharing system targeting all residents of the province."
He also said, "Recently, due to heatwaves, the number of deaths from heatstroke patients reached double digits. The problem is that it will get hotter due to abnormal climate," and added, "Next year, we will promote climate insurance enrollment targeting not only vulnerable groups and the elderly but all residents of Gyeonggi Province."
He continued, "We are in discussions with insurance companies to enroll in climate insurance," introducing, "Although this is the first time, insurance companies are also actively engaging, considering it a pioneering field."
Meanwhile, the projects promoted by Governor Kim ? ▲launching a climate satellite ▲establishing the Gyeonggi RE100 Fund ▲promoting climate insurance enrollment ? are ambitious projects prepared by Gyeonggi Province for the first time in Korea next year.
