83-Inch OLED TV Panel
Samsung Display unexpectedly unveiled a new technology called OLEDoS, a core technology for extended reality (XR) headsets. Unlike the previously revealed RGB (Red·Green·Blue) method, it achieved brightness equivalent to lighting 12,000 candles simultaneously using the white (W-OLED) method. LG Display also showcased a product that implements the brightest luminance among existing OLED TV panels.
On the 14th, Samsung Display set up an exhibition booth under the theme "Journey into AI" at the "K-Display 2024," the Korea Display Industry Exhibition held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and revealed the new type of OLEDoS for the first time. This product is evaluated to have succeeded in achieving ultra-high brightness of 12,000 nits for the first time in the industry in a 1.3-inch ultra-small size. One nit represents the brightness of about one candle. The pixel density is 4000 ppi, packing the resolution of a 4K TV into a coin-sized ultra-small screen.

Along with this, Samsung Display publicly introduced OLED concept products for the first time in Korea, including a smart key and smart headphones equipped with a 1.5-inch circular OLED, a smart watch cling band with a 6.2-inch flexible OLED, and a smart speaker with a 7.6-inch flexible OLED.
They also demonstrated AI interfaces utilizing the unique expandability and variability of foldable OLEDs in various multi-foldable OLEDs such as the flip-type foldable "Flex In&Out," which can be folded 360 degrees, the "Flex S," which folds twice inward and outward, and the "Flex Hybrid," which combines foldable and slidable technologies.
A gaming zone was also set up where visitors could see the gaming display lineup at a glance. Exhibits included the recently popular portable gaming device Steam Deck, 49-, 34-, and 27-inch gaming monitors, and a 15.6-inch laptop certified with Clear MR. In collaboration with Krafton, visitors were given the opportunity to directly experience "Battlegrounds."

LG Display showcased new OLED technologies under the theme "A Better Future" for OLED TV panels, including large OLEDs optimized for TV and gaming, and extra-large vehicle display solutions optimized for software-defined vehicles (SDV) at this exhibition.
In particular, the "83-inch OLED TV panel" applied LG Display's new technology "META Technology 2.0," which consolidates 10 years of OLED expertise. It improved luminance, one of the key elements of image quality, by about 42% compared to previous models, achieving the brightest maximum luminance of 3000 nits among existing OLED TV panels. It features 42.4 billion (based on 77 inches) ultra-fine lens patterns "MLA+" combined with proprietary algorithms "Meta Multi Booster" and "Detail Enhancer," vividly and three-dimensionally expressing rich, natural colors and brightness as seen by the human eye.
The gaming OLED lineup was gathered in one place, including 27-, 31.5-, 34-, 39-, and 45-inch models. Applying "META Technology 2.0" enhanced image quality completeness, and it boasts the fastest response time (0.03 ms) and high refresh rates among existing panels, minimizing the "ghosting effect" where surrounding objects are reflected on the screen in dark scenes.
For vehicle displays, differentiated technologies based on OLED and low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) LCD were introduced, unveiling extra-large solutions optimized for SDVs.
This year marks the 23rd K-Display 2024. Besides Samsung Display and LG Display, 157 domestic and international material, parts, and equipment companies participated.
Choi Ju-seon, chairman of the Korea Display Industry Association (and president of Samsung Display), participated in the opening ceremony and said, "Three times more buyers participated compared to last year," adding, "It will be an opportunity to witness new changes in displays such as foldable and rollable, along with new growth products like automotive and XR."
