A Weekend Permanent Night Market Opens at Yongin Jungang Market

Yongin City to Operate 'Byeoldang Market' Starting from the 21st of Next Month

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has decided to expand the Yongin Jungang Market night market, which was held twice a year in the form of a 'festival,' into a permanent weekend market.

On the 14th, Yongin City announced that starting from the 21st of next month, it will operate a permanent weekend night market called 'Byeoldang Market' at Yongin Jungang Market in Kimryangjang-dong, Cheoin-gu.

'Byeoldang Market' was inspired by the popularity of the 'Byeolbit Madang Night Market,' which was held three times last year and this year, and has been expanded into a permanent weekend night market. The night market will be held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 4 PM to 9 PM along Jungang-ro at Yongin Jungang Market. Mobile stalls will be set up at the night market selling food items such as kebabs, barbecue, churros, grilled stones, and beverages.

To this end, the Yongin Jungang Market Merchants Association previously recruited and selected seven teams to sell food in May. Sellers will also be provided with items necessary for operation, such as simple cooking stalls, souvenirs, and uniforms.

On the 6th, the city launched the 'Yongin Jungang Market K-Market Supporters,' composed of foreign students, to promote Yongin Jungang Market and Byeoldang Market through social networking services (SNS). The supporters consist of 17 foreign students who are either enrolled at Yongin Arts Science University, Yongin University, Kyung Hee University, Sungkyunkwan University, or reside in the area.

Byeoldang Market will undergo a trial operation on the 19th of next month and officially open on the 21st.

Meanwhile, last year, the city was selected for the Cultural Tourism Market Development Project, investing 420 million KRW each from national and city funds to develop Yongin Jungang Market into a specialized market linked with historical, cultural, and tourism resources. The city plans to promote ▲specialized content branding ▲tourism tour course branding ▲community-friendly market projects at Yongin Jungang Market by 2025.
