Miki Ando, a former Japanese figure skater who competed against Kim Yuna, has become embroiled in controversy.
On June 26, Japanese media outlet "Shukan Bunshun" reported on a date between Miki Ando and her 16-year-old student, A-kun. In the photos, the two are seen holding hands affectionately or placing their hands around each other's waists. These scenes were enough to suggest a relationship that crossed the boundaries between teacher and student.
Born in 1987, Miki Ando is 36 years old this year. She has been suspected of having an inappropriate relationship with her underage student, who is twenty years her junior.
The relationship between Miki Ando and her student is reportedly well known among figure skating insiders. They have displayed affectionate behavior regardless of time or place, including on airplanes, trains, and in athlete waiting rooms.
The subject of the controversy, Miki Ando, appeared on a news program a month later to state her position. She said, "My behavior was careless. I caused trouble for many people. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize," showing tears. She also denied some of the reports, saying, "However, some of the coverage is not true."
