Gyeonggi Province will hold the 79th Liberation Day celebration ceremony on the 15th at the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency in Gwanggyo, Suwon.

Under the theme "Memory - Connecting the Future," the event will proceed in the order of commemorative performances, national ceremony, commemorative speeches, awards for independence activists, congratulatory speeches, singing of the Liberation Day song, and three cheers for victory.

In particular, at this year's ceremony, young artists receiving opportunity income will present an original musical that reconstructs historical independence movements such as the Hwaseong Jeam-ri and Gojuri massacres.

Unlike previous years when the three cheers for victory were led by the head of the Liberation Association branch, this year, representatives of the province composed of 4th-grade elementary students, middle school students, high school students, and university students will participate together. About 20 opportunity reporters, all elementary students, will also attend.

Currently, Gyeonggi Province is home to two surviving independence activists: patriot Oh Hee-ok (98 years old) and patriot Oh Seong-gyu (101 years old), who returned from Japan last August after more than 70 years.

Due to illness, Oh Hee-ok cannot attend the ceremony in person, but her family will be present. Oh Seong-gyu is currently living at the Veterans' Home and is in a state of limited mobility.
