Seongdong-gu Joins Hands with Fire and Police Departments for Electric Vehicle Fire Prevention and Response

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has rolled up its sleeves for the prevention and response to electric vehicle fires in collaboration with related organizations such as Seongdong Fire Station and Seongdong Police Station, amid growing concerns due to a series of electric vehicle fires occurring in various areas recently.

On the 13th, Seongdong-gu signed the ‘Seongdong-gu Electric Vehicle Fire Prevention and Response Business Agreement’ with Seongdong Fire Station and Seongdong Police Station.

The agreement mainly includes reinforcing dedicated equipment for extinguishing electric vehicle fires, as initial response is crucial when an electric vehicle fire occurs in the area.

Accordingly, the district decided to support Seongdong Fire Station by reinforcing electric vehicle fire extinguishing equipment such as a mobile water tank (mobile immersion tank), known for its high battery pack cooling effect during electric vehicle fire suppression, and a smothering fire extinguishing cover that covers the burning vehicle.

In addition, to establish a prompt and efficient fire suppression system by controlling traffic and securing safety at the accident site during a fire, Seongdong-gu Office, Seongdong Fire Station, and Seongdong Police Station agreed to strengthen their cooperation system by regularly conducting joint fire response drills.

Furthermore, each organization agreed to conduct an emergency joint inspection of apartment complexes in Seongdong-gu equipped with electric vehicle chargers in underground parking lots, to be completed by August, and to provide special fire safety education for apartment complex managers in the area.

Moreover, they plan to recommend installing thermal imaging CCTV in electric vehicle charging zones to create a system that can detect and warn of fires early, and will continuously work together to discover and promote improvement tasks for electric vehicle fire prevention in the future.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, emphasized, “This business agreement is meaningful in that Seongdong Fire Station and Seongdong Police Station have united with one heart to alleviate residents’ growing anxiety caused by a series of electric vehicle fires in various areas and to create a ‘safer and better Seongdong’ together. We will continue efforts to strengthen the cooperation system with related organizations so that residents can maintain a comfortable and safe daily life.”
