The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Autonomous Police Committee (Chairperson Lee Yeon-ju, hereinafter referred to as the 'Committee') announced on the 13th that it held a capacity-building workshop for the 'establishment of a resident-centered autonomous police system' in the provincial government conference room.

About 30 people, including autonomous police committee members and secretariat staff, attended the workshop. The event featured expert lectures and discussions on the Committee's key promotion directions and detailed tasks by sector. It was organized to share the activities since the launch of the 2nd Committee in June this year, discuss next year's business plans, and find the future direction of the Committee.

Professor Cho Sung-kyu of Jeonbuk National University Law School, who gave the special lecture, emphasized that legal and institutional reforms should be made to a dual structure to overcome the limitations of the current unified autonomous police system.

He mentioned the need to expand the Committee's authority and autonomy, and introduced cases of promoting resident participation and implementing community-based policies based on his three years of experience as a Daejeon autonomous police committee member.

During the subsequent discussion, participants analyzed the security environment of Jeonbuk and exchanged various opinions on the Committee's goals and successful implementation methods for policy projects.

Going forward, the Committee plans to continuously communicate with experts from various fields, related organizations, and field police officers to gather opinions and prepare substantial security policies.

Chairperson Lee Yeon-ju of the Autonomous Police Committee said, "Based on expert policy suggestions, we will promote region-customized security policies that residents can feel," adding, "We will focus all our capabilities to establish a Jeonbuk-type autonomous police system that ensures the peaceful daily lives of residents and protects socially vulnerable groups."
