During the 2024 Paris Olympics, the customer who gave the most tips at French restaurants was found to be from South Africa. Additionally, the customer who spent the highest average amount per meal was Austrian.


According to the daily newspaper Le Figaro on the 13th (local time), restaurant payment service provider Sunday analyzed over 300,000 receipts from partner restaurants and found that South Africans were the most generous in terms of both frequency and amount of tipping.


They left an average tip of 7.3% of the payment amount about two out of every three times after dining at French restaurants.


The next most generous tippers were Americans, who tipped an average of 6.3%. Israelis ranked third.


On the other hand, the groups who left the smallest tips were Greeks, Norwegians, and Bulgarians, tipping an average of 4.3% of the food bill.


The person who spent the most money on a single meal at a Paris restaurant during the Olympics was Swiss, paying a total of 2,377 euros (approximately 3.56 million KRW).


Also, the person who spent the highest average amount per meal was Austrian, spending an average of 33.61 euros (about 50,000 KRW). Americans, Swedes, Dutch, New Zealanders, Danes, Hong Kong residents, and Thais also spent more than 30 euros (about 44,000 KRW) per meal.


Sunday provides a system where customers scan a QR code placed on the restaurant table and pay by credit card on their own mobile phones.
