Queensa, Korea Leads Initiative to Establish and Operate Fact Standardization Organization Forum

The Quantum INdustrial Standard Association (QuINSA), a global de facto standardization organization in the field of quantum information technology led by Korea, was launched on the 13th.

QuINSA is a private-sector-led international de facto standardization organization for quantum information technology. It will play various roles, including cooperation among experts to develop international standards for detailed technologies such as quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum sensing; investigating and analyzing standardization trends in quantum information technology domestically and internationally; discovering quantum information technology cases and promoting industrialization; and collaborating with international standardization organizations.

The Korea Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) will provide support through the ‘Establishment and Operation Forum for Korea-led De Facto Standardization Organizations’ project, and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) will promote quantum commercialization by building a quantum testbed based on global standards. The QuINSA Secretariat will be hosted by the Future Quantum Convergence Center.

Founding members of QuINSA include major domestic companies such as SK Telecom, KT, LGU+, LG Electronics, POSCO, and LIG Nex1, as well as small and startup companies like IDQ, Jininfra, and SDT. Overseas, advanced quantum information technology companies such as IBM (USA), Qusecure (USA), IQM (Finland), SemiQon (Finland), Quantum Machines (Israel), and BTQ (Canada) are participating. The Ministry of Science and ICT explained that Amazon is also considering joining.

Quantum technology is a science and technology field that the government is fostering as one of the three major 'game changer technologies' along with AI-semiconductors and advanced bio. Although it is expected to change the landscape of the future industrial ecosystem, since it is still in the early stage of industrialization, standardization, which is an important link between technology and industry, is crucial.

The NIA stated that it will actively support QuINSA together with TTA so that QuINSA can firmly establish itself internationally as a de facto standardization organization in the field of quantum information technology.

Jo Seonhak, Director of the Research and Development Investment Review Bureau and head of the quantum division at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “De facto standardization activities centered on the industry are important to quickly activate the ecosystem of the quantum industry, which is in the early stage of industrialization, and to promote industrial utilization.” He added, “We hope that QuINSA, launched under Korea’s leadership, will establish itself as an internationally recognized de facto standardization organization and play a pivotal role in the development of global quantum information technology and ecosystem creation.”
