Uljin Reading Culture, Creating a Happier Uljin Through Books
Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province held a special lecture featuring the county governor as part of the summer vacation reading camp, "A Night at the Library: 1 Night 2 Days Doing All Sorts of Things," at the Bukuljin Library on the 12th. Around 20 participants, including elementary students and their guardians, attended the event.
This special lecture was one of the initiatives under the "Citizen Service Day," which has been conducted to strengthen communication with residents since the start of the 8th popularly elected administration.
Governor Son Byeongbok, who has always shown exceptional affection for the education of children who will lead Uljin's next hundred years, arranged this meeting to share various stories with children and their parents.
Before the lecture, 100 donated books from Youngjin.com were delivered to the library for the centennial vision of Uljin education. The lecture itself lasted about 20 minutes and focused on "Why We Should Read Books" amid the flood of fast-paced new media.
Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "With the advancement of internet and mobile technologies, we are surrounded by short and intense content. It is important to foster the habit of reading books from a young age to develop deep thinking and knowledge. The habits of reading, reviewing, previewing, and writing diaries have become excellent nourishment for my personal growth."
After the lecture, he spent time communicating with library staff and encouraged the employees who prepared the event.
Uljin County is making multifaceted efforts to create a happy Uljin through books by fostering a reading-friendly atmosphere throughout the region.
