SonyD is showing strength. This appears to be due to the spotlight on the 'lithium-ion battery facility dedicated fire extinguishing system' technology owned by its subsidiary SonyDOn, following the recent electric vehicle battery fire incidents.
As of 1:45 PM on the 13th, SonyD was trading at 1,065 KRW, up 134 KRW (14.39%) compared to the previous trading day.
The day before, the government held the 'Electric Vehicle and Underground Charging Station Fire Safety Interagency Meeting' chaired by the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Environment, with participation from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and experts.
At the meeting, most of the response measures proposed by the media and experts following the electric vehicle fire in the underground parking lot of an apartment in Cheongna International City, Incheon on the 1st were discussed. Based on the meeting results, the government plans to hold a vice ministerial meeting chaired by the Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination to establish the framework for a comprehensive electric vehicle fire countermeasure to be announced in early next month.
SonyDOn developed a 'lithium-ion battery facility dedicated fire extinguishing system' capable of responding to thermal runaway phenomena. Last year, together with KIST (Korea Institute of Science and Technology) engineer Yoo Byung-cheol, they filed patents for △portable safety firefighting equipment △extinguishing devices and automatic extinguishing systems for electric transportation equipment △automatic fire extinguishing systems for energy storage systems (ESS) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
SonyDOn's fire extinguishing system features the application of a non-conductive liquid extinguishing agent developed by Citec, designed to respond to thermal runaway phenomena. SonyDOn has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Citec for fire extinguishers used in lithium-ion battery fires.
The non-conductive liquid extinguishing agent has excellent cooling capabilities and blocks electrical conduction, preventing secondary damage caused by electric leakage, making it effective for initial extinguishing and fire spread prevention in electrical fires (Class C). Additionally, compared to water, it generates less heat, reducing the likelihood of fire re-ignition.
