65 Cases Detected with Judicial Action Planned
Fines Imposed for Failure to Conduct Safety Training

As a result of a special inspection of the Arisel factory, where a fire in June caused 23 deaths, a total of 65 safety and health violations, including improper installation of emergency exits, were found.


The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 13th that during a two-week special industrial safety and health inspection of the Arisel site, which manufactures batteries, starting from the 3rd of last month, a total of 28 violations were detected.

The Ministry focused on the fire and explosion prevention status, emergency response system, and safety and health education at the site. As a result, violations such as ▲improper installation of emergency exits ▲lack of gas detection and alarm devices ▲failure to designate explosion hazard areas were identified. Violations including failure to conduct worker safety and health education and health checkups were also discovered.


The Ministry will take legal action against the 65 violations of safety and health measures under the Industrial Safety and Health Act. For 82 violations, including failure to conduct safety and health education, fines will be imposed.


The Ministry explained, "Based on this fire accident case in Hwaseong City as well as exemplary cases of battery companies that have properly implemented fire and explosion prevention measures, we will establish safety guidelines for the battery industry," adding, "We plan to share and disseminate these within the industry."
