Starting Next Year, Night Shift Delivery Workers to Work Five Days Every Other Week
Day Shift Delivery Workers Required to Take at Least Two Mandatory Days Off Annually
Coupang Logistics Service (CLS) announced on the 13th that it will introduce a ‘biweekly five-day workweek delivery’ and a ‘mandatory day-off system’ starting next year for courier drivers belonging to specialized delivery companies.
With the introduction of the biweekly five-day workweek delivery, night-shift courier drivers will be able to work delivery duties only five days a week once every two weeks. Since six-day workweeks are common in the courier industry, the full implementation of the biweekly five-day workweek delivery is expected to further reduce the workload of courier drivers belonging to specialized delivery companies contracted with CLS. According to CLS, currently about 30-40% of courier drivers belonging to some specialized delivery companies already deliver five days or less per week.
For day-shift courier drivers, the introduction of a ‘mandatory day-off system’ is being promoted, which requires them to take two days off during the week and work only five days, at least once every six months and at least twice a year.
CLS plans to hold thorough consultations with each specialized delivery company in the second half of this year to establish detailed implementation plans for the five-day workweek delivery. Since the number of working days directly affects the income of courier drivers, CLS intends to discuss reasonable implementation measures with the specialized delivery companies.
Additionally, CLS will actively support the expansion of day-off usage and reduction of workload for courier drivers by expanding the policy where, upon request from delivery companies, Coupang Friends?CLS’s directly employed delivery personnel?deliver the delivery volume of the delivery companies.
A CLS official stated, “With the implementation of measures such as the biweekly five-day workweek delivery for night-shift courier drivers and the expansion of Quickflexer days off, the workload of courier drivers belonging to specialized delivery companies will be further reduced,” adding, “We will continue to create advanced delivery work conditions through ongoing consultations with each specialized delivery company.”
