Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is extending the operation of Jungnang Ongdalsaem to protect the health of residents amid the ongoing heatwave. As a result, the operation period of Jungnang Ongdalsaem, originally scheduled to run until the 15th, has been extended to the 19th.

Operating since 2021, ‘Jungnang Ongdalsaem’ is a refrigerated water dispenser set up along outdoor walking trails where residents passing by can drink free cool bottled water and beat the heat during the hot summer. Last year, over 800,000 bottles of water were distributed, reflecting high satisfaction among residents.

This year, about 350,000 bottles have been consumed by August 9, receiving enthusiastic support from the community. Due to the heatwave warning lasting more than 10 days, the district extended the operation period of Jungnang Ongdalsaem and increased the water supply from 450,000 to 480,000 bottles.

Jungnang Ongdalsaem can be found at six park walking trails with heavy foot traffic and three locations along the Jungnang Stream. The locations are ▲ Bonghwasan (Onggi Theme Park, Bongsudae Park) ▲ Yongmasan (behind Yongma Senior Welfare Center, Yongma Waterfall Park, entrance of Sagajeong Park, Mangwoo History and Culture Park) ▲ Jungnang Stream (Gyeomjae Small Library, opposite the Sehwa Public Daycare Center, Surim Grand Park).

The operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with each refrigerator providing about 300 bottles of water five times a day, totaling approximately 480,000 bottles free of charge over about a month. The supply frequency will be flexibly adjusted depending on daily consumption by location, stock status, and weather conditions.

In particular, volunteer ‘Saemjigi’ composed of Jungnang residents manage recycling and rest areas to help residents use the service conveniently.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We decided to extend the operation of Jungnang Ongdalsaem to prevent heat-related illnesses among residents amid the continuous heatwave,” adding, “We hope that a cool bottle of water will help you forget the heat, even if just for a moment.”
