Incheon City announced on the 12th that it has collected 756 million KRW in overdue taxes in the first half of this year by operating the 'Alpha (α) Civil Arrears Settlement Team,' which involves citizen participation.
The Alpha Civil Arrears Settlement Team is named after the first letter of the Greek alphabet, symbolizing the priority given to understanding the living conditions and livelihoods of tax delinquents during on-site investigations, and actively providing administrative services by linking with relevant departments when welfare support is needed.
Since April, the city has hired 15 citizens as arrears investigators to operate the Alpha Civil Arrears Settlement Team. They conduct comprehensive investigations through phone consultations and on-site visits regarding the delinquent taxpayers' residence, property ownership, reasons for arrears, and payment capacity.
So far, a field survey has been conducted on 27,813 local tax delinquents, resulting in the collection of 756 million KRW as of last month, and support for tax installment payments and deferment of arrears enforcement was provided to 404 individuals.
In particular, 18 livelihood-type delinquents identified during the investigation process were assisted in resuming economic activities through emergency welfare and job guidance in cooperation with administrative welfare centers.
An official from Incheon City stated, "By involving citizens directly in the settlement of overdue taxes, we are building consensus on Incheon City's tax administration and providing tailored recovery services to livelihood-type delinquents. We will continue to do our best in arrears administration focused on public welfare."
