Meeting with Koichi Mizushima, Japanese Ambassador to Korea, on the 12th
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon met with Koichi Mizushima, the Japanese Ambassador to Korea, to discuss ways to promote exchanges among the three countries, including China.
On the morning of the 12th, Mayor Oh met Ambassador Mizushima at the Seoul City Hall mayor’s office to hold these discussions. Ambassador Mizushima served as the Minister in charge at the Japanese Embassy in Korea from 2017 to 2019 and was appointed as the Japanese Ambassador to Korea in May.

Seoul began its friendship city agreement with Tokyo, Japan in 1988, followed by a sister city agreement with Hokkaido in 2010. Since then, the cities have continued exchange and cooperation in various fields, including policy inspection visits, co-hosting international conferences, and attending events.
On this day, Mayor Oh said, “Amid the improving diplomatic relations among Korea, China, and Japan, I look forward to the restoration of relations and active exchanges among the three cities of Seoul, Tokyo, and Beijing.” He added, “I hope a meeting can be arranged where the mayors of the three cities can come together with the determination that exchanges among the capitals of Seoul, Tokyo, and Beijing should become active again, as they were ten years ago.” He also asked Ambassador Mizushima to serve as a bridge for cooperation and exchanges among these cities.
Mayor Oh also conveyed an invitation, expressing hope that Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, and Japanese companies will participate in the Seoul Smart Life Week to be held in October and share advanced technologies that can improve citizens’ lives.
Ambassador Mizushima responded, “Japan and Korea are currently moving toward a good relationship, and thanks to Seoul’s efforts, exchanges among Seoul, Tokyo, and Beijing will become more active.” He added, “Active exchanges between countries and cities will also help strengthen relations among the people.” He also promised to definitely convey Mayor Oh’s invitation to Tokyo regarding the Seoul Smart Life Week.
